The invited speakers of the 1st Ibero-American Seminar on Plant Nutrition and members of our lab visited UACh’s Chilean Potato Germplasm Bank.

After the 1st Ibero-American Seminar on Plant Nutrition, we visited UACh’s Estación Experimental Agropecuaria Austral (EEAA) in Cabo Blanco, where Eusebio Miranda gave us a tour of the history and contents of the Germplasm Bank collection.

The collection, started in 1958, comprises around 270 clones. Don Eusebio showed us a selection of native potatoes, as well as crosses of culinary interest produced at the station.

The weather was on our side for a visit to the field site where the collection is propagated every year. There we could observe phenotypic differences among the plants, both in morphology and in susceptibility to environmental factors.
